Territorial Disputes: Disputes with Iran over maritime and land boundaries, navigation channel, and other issues
from eight-year war persist; in Nov 1994, Iraq formally accepted the UN-demarcated border with Kuwait which had been spelled
out in Security Council Resolutions 687 (1991), 773 (1993), and 883 (1993), Shatt al Arab boundary demarcation put an end
to claims to Kuwait and to Bubiyan and Warbah islands, but no maritime boundary exists with Kuwait in the Persian Gulf; Iraq
protests Turkey's hydrological projects to regulate the Tigris and Euphrates rivers upstream; Coalition forces assist Iraqis
in monitoring boundary security, but resolution of disputes and creation of maritime boundaries with neighboring states will
remain in hiatus until full sovereignty is restored in Iraq; Turkey has expressed concern over the status of Kurds in Iraq.
